This past weekend, Danny and I decided to do some camping! We like free stuff, so we went up Green Canyon (the canyon north of Logan) where camping there is free. It didn't have a river where we could go fishing, but it was still fun!
We also tried our hand at cooking Dutch Oven (thanks to my grandpa!). We decided to play it safe and do dessert - peach cobbler. All was going well, until we ran into a couple of problems:
-We didn't know how to heat the charcoal...we just kept putting lighter fluid on it and setting it aflame..
-I forgot the butter for the cobbler...one of the main ingredients...but we put in some vegetable oil instead and it turned out to be warm peaches in a cake batter type mixture (still yummy!)
and
-We forgot a can opener...but Danny was able to improvise with a hammer and pliers.
All in all, we still had lots of fun! It was great to just be together in the mountains and get away for a while! More pictures...
On Saturday, after we had come back from camping, Danny remembered that he saw a sign for a demolition derby for that night. We figured out where/when it was and got some sweet discount tickets to go! I love demolition derbies...our 3rd date was to a demolition derby and I think I scared Danny a bit with how much I hooted and hollered (it was my first derby at the time!), but I don't care - nothing is better than watching cars smash into each other! Here are some pictures:
Near the end of the derby, the band that was playing announced they had a special guest that would sing...well, we're pretty sure she was totally wasted. Here's the video, it's pretty funny. *Warning, dancing by the singer may not be suitable for all viewers*
And finally, (sorry, I know this is a long post) Danny retired his running shoes. Yes, these are the shoes that he ran a 4:59 mile in...Yes, these are the shoes that he ran his first marathon in. I told him he should keep them as a keepsake, but he said no. But I had to get a picture of him with them so we could show our children one day.
I love your blog! I didn't know you had one, and now you're officially on my blogstalking list :) You two are so cute, so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute camping couple you are! Sounds like you still had fun despite a couple of glitches. I had no idea you liked demolitions derbies so much. So who was the special guest singer? Surely it wasn't Pat Benatar. Did you have a moment of silence for the shoes? I love hearing U2 while reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteDanny, your marathon/4:59 mile shoes...how could you just throw out the memories?! You should have just asked - I would have boxed them up and stored them for ya! Your camping trip sounds so fun...nothing better than batter and luke warm peaches!! Yum, yum!...Oh, what fun memories you'll have to tell your kids some day! :)
